You're likely already familiar with how to specify a color using the RGB color notation, but you may be less familiar with additional syntax for it that has been introduced mainly with the CSS color module level 4. Additional notations like HEX and HSL are just different ways of specifying colors in the sRGB color space. The RGB color notation (short for red, green and blue) is really the basis for color on the web currently. The notation looks like this: rgb(44, 233, 77) and opacity can also be specified using RGBA: rgba(44, 233, 77. TL DR → The RGB color notation represents each color channel (red, green and blue) with a value between 0 and 255. In total, these notations give access to 16,777,216 colors. These notations are simply 3 different ways to specify a color, and any of these 3 doesn't give you access to any additional colors. Using color on the web, whether this is via CSS, HTML or JavaScript, is done using a color code notation like RGB, HSL or HEX. □ This tool is made possible thanks to iro.js and chroma.js, two awesome JavaScript libraries to play with colors. Tints consist of the original color mixed with various degrees of white, shades mix the color with various degrees of black and tones are a mix of the colors with various degrees of neutral gray.įor more color palettes, check out pppalette, a simple color palette generator and hhhue, a curated collection of color palettes. This can help refine the color, or help build a cohesive color palette for your web design projects. ✨ For the selected color, you also get color palettes with tints, shades, tones, warmer colors and cooler colors. So for example, if you're looking to convert rgb to hex, or hex to hsl, this tool will help you do just that. □ I also wanted to make it easy to copy and convert the color values in different formats like RGB(a), HSL(a), hex or 8-digit hex (with alpha), so that as web designers we can stop finicking around with formatting our color values and can get on to what we do best. My goal is to dig back into the context around examples from past blog posts to develop more of an idea of characters’ relationships to the images of blackness rather than doing a project on the historical context surrounding the images. ![]() It is one thing to think that this is his only idea of blackness, but another to consider that he purposefully uses this image to degrade the black men he imagines her being with. With the instance I analyzed in my blog post from Tuesday, I was able to make a claim that Bloom’s thinking of the minstrel performance in a fit of jealousy over Molly’s interest in Black men is a demonstration of his using racist images and ideas to build himself up. Additionally, I think it would be beneficial if I could make more of a claim about the characters interacting with these images of blackness instead of merely providing a background explanation of them.Ĭirce has given me the chance to begin to analyze and make a claim about Bloom’s attitude toward blackness and his own subconscious racism. I’m thinking instead of consolidating, I may need to go back and look more at the context surrounding these instances of blackness and think about how they function within their place in the novel, instead of simply pointing them out and analyzing where they may be coming from in the real world. The problem is, with the arguments I’ve been constructing in my blog posts, I feel as though I’m setting myself up to write an essay about American racism that uses Ulysses as an example, not as much about racism and blackness in Ulysses. While this is a topic I am interested in for a final project and while I think there is enough content worth delving into, I’m worried that consolidating may be the opposite of what I need to do.Įssentially, I’ve only analyzed the presence and instances of racism, looking at the history and context behind the blackface performances or the racism contained in the newspaper advertisement. ![]() Looking back, I’ve been gathering examples of American racism showing up in Ulysses. The problem I have with consolidating my ideas is that most of my blog posts have been pretty close together in both purpose and content.
